The Diocese of Durham is delighted to announce the start of build-up activities for Bishops in Mission 2017, which will be held over the long weekend of the 2nd – 5th March 2017, and with be titled ‘Talking Jesus’. To mark this announcement, a short promo film has been released which outlines the weekend and how churches can get involved.
The film, which is now available on various social media platforms, sets out to explain what will be happening during the weekend when 20 Bishops from across the Northern Province of the Church of England will come to the Diocese with their mission teams and help people engage in dialogue about Jesus.
Churches from across the Diocese are encouraged to put on great events during the weekend which will then be supported by the Bishops and their teams. The events will be put on in a variety of places with the central theme of talking about Jesus and engaging with the wider community.
The film narrated by Revd Fiona Collin, Curate at Sunderland Minster and Bishop Paul gives an overview of ‘Talking Jesus’ and calls churches to get involved now!
The Right Revd Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham said: “In this Diocese, we’re all about blessing our communities in Jesus’ name for the transformation of us all. What greater blessing can we offer than an introduction to Jesus? What could be more transformative than coming to know him?”
In the film he invites churches to start their planning now, put on a great event and invite their friends. He adds: “Just imagine; one long weekend; Twenty Bishops; Hundreds of events; Thousands hearing about Jesus and having their lives transformed.”
The release of the film coincides with the launch of a dedicated Facebook page ‘TalkingJesusDurham‘ which will serve as a source of resource and communication in the year leading up-to and during the events of Talking Jesus over the long weekend of 2nd – 5th March 2017.
