The Right Revd Paul Butler, Bishop of Durham has embarked on his second set of prayer walks round his Diocese. The 2016 Prayer Walks started in Darlington on ascension day Thursday 5th May 2016. The prayer walks are aimed at allowing him to meet people, get to know the area and pray for it and its people.
Bishop Paul arrives with wife Rosemary on the 8.45am from Bishop Auckland at the start of his 4 day prayer walk in the Darlington area.
Bishop Paul arrived at Darlington station on ascension day to mark the start of four days of walks around the area, which will be repeated next week in the Stockton area from Thursday 12th May.
He was greeted by more than 80 adults and children at Darlington station where he alighted the 8.45am from Bishop Auckland.
During the first of four days in Darlington he visited a range of places across the town including: Darlington Farmer Mart; Mind The Charity; Darlington Fire & Rescue; Darlington Police Station; The Mayor’s Parlour; Darlington Covered Market; Darlington Credit Union and Darlington Crown Street Library. The day’s visits concluded with tea at the Friends meeting house with other faith leaders from the town and then an evening Ascension Day Holy Communion – Sadberge Village Green.
Bishop Paul said: “I love Prayer Walks because they are a great way to discover an area, meet its people and pray together with them.
“As we walk and pray together we seek to bless, and be blessed by, the people and communities that we visit. I hope that people will join me. It is fun, enjoyable and really rewarding to do.”
